CERVICAL EXAMS CONSENT
There's a lot of discussion about mindful cervical exams and consent, but I haven't run across too many consent forms. This informed consent document for dilation checks is just what is needed. Mother's will feel they have some say in the matter before they are asked in labor, "Can I check you?"
Professional Tips:
Instead of saying, I am going to check you now, ask her if you can check.
Instead of gloving up first and then asking for permission, get permission first.
Instead of saying, I am ready to check you, ask, "Let me know when you are ready for me to check you."
Instead of saying, you need to be checked, say, "I noticed a change in your contraction pattern. May I check you?"
